Ambient Space Meditation

The Perfect Dream

Album – Music for Moving Meditation

After over 30 years of Tai Chi practice I discovered an obscure and ancient Chinese form of health and was so impressed by it that I wrote a book on the subject. The art’s unique philosophy features the Five Chinese Elements and Pyramid Energy. I wrote Music for Moving Meditation with these aspects in mind. The first track, Qi in Earth, for example, has an ancient Egyptian flavour; grand, majestic with sweeping chords.

Album – Haunted Dreams

This was my first new age album. I took the album photo myself in 1985 from my flat opposite St Mary’s Hospital, Harrow Road, London. The stark Victorian building was a former workhouse and its towers silhouetted  against the fiery twilight created some impressive vistas. The album explores aspects of the night, in particular sleep and dreams. Synth pads are mixed with classical orchestral elements (especially oboe, choir and strings) and conjure the experiences of the night, taking the listener on a mystical journey.

Let Us Sleep

This is another drone-inspired sleep enhancer – but this time, the drone is provided by an orchestral chord from a 1974 recording of a Richard Strauss Tone Poem – slowed down 800 times! There is a lone melody /motif in the soprano, which is a plaintive synthesized female choir. The only other element is a synth pad gently panning across the musical landscape.

Listening recommendation: Low to medium volume, using earphones or pillow speakers.

Dreams

A warm and spine-tingling chord progression is carried across the listener’s mind-scape, accompanied by an occasional simple plaintive motif. Ideal for meditation, relaxation or sleep enhancement.

Listening recommendation: Low to medium volume, using earphones or pillow speakers.

Restive Sleep – Into the Sky

This is a drone-inspired sleep enhancer with a rather dreamy effect. I prefer to include a melody or motif in this type of piece to add interest and points of focus in an otherwise plain, even if sensuous, wall of sound.

However, such motifs should not be too frequent or too complex as they have a detrimental effect on the `suspended consciousness’ effect of the piece as a whole. Excessive melodic and harmonic movement – and emphasizing rhythm (especially with drums) – is not conducive to this type of uplifting meditative piece.

Listening recommendation: Low to medium volume, using earphones or pillow speakers.

Inside the Great Pyramid of Giza

Influenced by the internal chambers of the Great Pyramid of Giza, this is another drone-inspired sleep enhancer with a dreamy effect. Mystical, other-worldly, it takes the listener way back to the distant past (or far future) of pyramids.

Listening recommendation: Low to medium volume, using earphones or pillow speakers.

`Afterlife’ – taster of new album `Rivers of the Overworlds’

rivers-of-the-overworlds

Below is a link to the first track from a new album called `Rivers of the Overworlds.’ The album has not been published and will not available on itunes or other stores for some months. However, I have linked to a full track as a taster of the album.  The concept is that there are many`Overworlds’ – alternate realities, including the afterlife, the dream state and virtual reality, linked together by `rivers’ of consciousness. So that it is possible to flow from one world into another by merely wishing…

The style of the album is dreamy and metaphysical.

I hope you enjoy the track.

The Depths of Space

The Depths of Space is a piece belonging to the `Ambient and Space Meditation’ genre. Like most of my music in this genre, it is rather spectral and `other-worldly’ in texture and sound but also has a romantic feel and pace. It belongs to a spacey collection/album titled `Beyond.’ You can listen to the entire piece online via the link below.
